The 2024-25 Ghana Premier League was concluded on Sunday, 8th June, 2025, where Bibiani Gold Stars were crowned the champions after they mauled Accra Lions 4-0 at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani. The Miners on the final day needed to win and hoped that Nations and Kotoko dropped points. Thankfully, their competitors dropped points as Kotoko lost 3-1 at Vision and Nations lost 2-0 at Abrankese to Heart of Lions.
The league table after matchday 34 was so different as Flashscore, Sofa and Worldfootball.net each had different. The GFA on Tuesday released the original one with Bibiani Gold Stars topping, Heart of Lions finishing 2nd, Asante Kotoko sitting 3rd, Hearts of Oak clinching the 4th slot and Nations FC finishing 5th.
How did Nations finish 5th with 57 points?
Nations FC in week 33 at Basake Holy Stars refused to continue the match after Holy Stars were awarded a second penalty. The club disclosed that the referee was not fair to them and was intimidated, and decided to completely abandon the game when they were already down by a lone goal. The GFA on Tuesday confirmed that three points have been awarded to Holy Stars and 3 points have been deducted from Nations FC’s already won 60 points because they failed to honour the game, leaving them with just 57.
How did Asante Kotoko finish ahead of Hearts of Oak after both teams won 58 points?
The two most glamorous Ghanaian clubs finished on 58 points each: both won 16 games, drew 10 and lost 8. Phobia scored 32 goals and conceded 18, whilst the Porcupine Warriors scored 37 and conceded 27; hence, Hearts of Oak finished with a goal difference of 14 to Kotoko’s 10. The two teams’ performances were almost the same, but were separated by a superior head-to-head record, where Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak 1-0 in Kumasi and drew 0-0 in Accra. Kotoko finished 3rd ahead of Hearts of Oak because of a superior H2H record.
How did Bibiani Gold Stars win the title?
The Miners are genuine champions as they won it after working extremely hard throughout the season. Bibiani Gold Stars finished the season three points ahead of second-placed Heart of Lions. Gold Stars and Nations FC each won 18 games, making them the best in terms of wins. Gold Stars lost only 7 games, which was the fewest.
