‘There are no minnows in football’ – Karim Zito warns Kotoko ahead of CAF Champions League

Former Ghana U-20 head coach, Karim Zito, has warned Asante Kotoko against underrating Rail Club du Kadiogo ahead of their clash against the Burkina Faso side in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Rail Club de Kadiogo were winners of the Burkinabe league during the 2021/22 season, earning them a ticket to the Champions League while Kotoko were also champions of the Ghana Premier League.

The two teams will square off in a two-legged encounter for a place in the next round.

Zito counselled Asante Kotoko not to underestimate the squad because they are from Burkina Faso and to follow history in an interview with Happy Sports.

“Now there are no minnows in football and this is going to be a tough assignment for Ghana and Asante Kotoko”, he said.

“Asante Kotoko played against Kadiogo during Malik Jabir’s time. They won 1-0 away and lost 1-0 at home to exit the competition. It’s not because they are from Burkina Faso, so it will be an easy game for us. So they must start preparing now.

He added that  Kotoko’s pre-season friendly against Rivers United will be good for the team ahead of the game

“I hope they can play them twice so that it will get the players ready for the game since it’s a high-profile friendly.”
