Hearts of Oak midfielder Thomas Abbey has revealed that he is now motivated to score more goals after his strike in the 2-1 win over Wa All Stars was votted the club’s Goal-of-the-Month for February.
The Accra based club’s General Captain beat team mates Patrick Razak and Alexandre Kouami to the award and speaking to the club’s official website afterwards, Abbey says it is going to motivate him to score more goals for the club.
“I am happy because this is my first time of getting such an award from Hearts,” he said, adding that, “I thank the fans for the appreciation [of my goal] because it will motivate me to score more for the club and for myself.
“This season I am targeting a number of goals because in preseason I scored wonderful goals so I am expecting and hoping to translate it in the league.”
Thomas Abbey was unlucky not to get on the score-sheet in the 2-0 away defeat to Aduana Stars last weekend with his snapshot bouncing off two opposite posts.
But that notwithstanding, the hardworking midfielder insists the miss will spur him to get on target against Olympics this weekend.
“After the ball [hit the posts], I just said ‘wow to myself’,” Abbey revealed. “I could not score against Aduana but I want to work hard and see if God willing I will be able to give the three points to the fans and score a wonderful goal [against Olympics on Sunday].”
Abbey has been involved in two of the three goals scored by the club so far in the season, scoring one and giving one assist.
