The Gambia has punched above their weight in the last 3 years in African football. The Scorpions qualified for their first-ever AFCON in 2021 in a grand style as they defied all odds and made it to the quarter-finals and lost 2-0 to the host, Cameroon.

Belgian tactician Tom Saintfiet was the man who led the Gambia to fight the big boys in the 2021 AFCON.

Tom Saintfiet, 50, is currently the most sought-after coach as he’s wanted by Cameroon, Algeria, Tunisia and Ghana.

Tom Saintfiet knows the continent extremely well as he has coached Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Malawi and Togo.

In the 2023 AFCON, Tom Saintfiet’s Scorpions lost all three games in Group C against Senegal, Cameroon and Guinea but played extremely well. The Belgian after the Scorpion’s elimination decided to quit his role as the head coach. He is now unattached so many teams are chasing him.

Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has hinted at his decision to step down as the Indomitable Lions coach. Djamel Belmadi resigned from his head coach role with Algeria soon after the 1-0 defeat to Mauritania. Jalal Kadri resigned as Tunisian head coach after the calamitous campaign in Ivory Coast. Chris Houghton was sacked by the Ghana Football Association in the wake of the abysmal 2023 AFCON.

These managers failed in the AFCON and are 100% sure to be replaced by the various football associations.  Countries are all trying to secure Tom Saintfiet’s signature for their vacant head coach positions.
