It looks like we have another twist in Ghana youth star Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s transfer deal as the player’s representatives have emphatically denied reports that he has signed for English giants Liverpool FC, labeling the widely circulated news as ‘totally untrue’.
Multiple reports in the Ghanaian media on Sunday evening suggested that English Premier League powerhouse Liverpool had beaten German side Bayer Leverkusen to the signing of the Steadfast FC star.
The highly-talented attacking midfielder who turns 18 in March 2022, was almost set to sign German side Bayern Leverkusen but the deal broke down after both parties failed to reach mutual agreement.
The reports claimed Liverpool have agreed a £1.5million deal to sign Fatawu Issahaku. The Reds have been closely linked with the 17-year-old this week but the player’s representative say no deal has been signed.
Speaking exclusively to SportsworldGhana.com on Monday 31st May, 2021, veteran football administrator Jones Abu Alhassan said: “We seriously do not know where the news is coming from but I can boldly tell you that the boy has not signed for Liverpool.
“We know people are really concerned about the progress of Fatawu but they should remain calm because we really care about his development and want the best for him. He has not signed for Liverpool as reported but I can assure the general public that he [Fatawu Issahaku], will sign a deal with a Champions League club in the coming days.” Mr. Abu Alhassan added.
The former Steadfast FC hitman has been a revelation this year, as he was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in Ghana’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Mauritania.
Fatawu has been named in the 30 man squad by Ghana’s coach Charles Akonnor for next month’s international friendlies against Ivory Coast and Morocco.
