England manager Thomas Tuchel has reacted to the Three Lions’ placement in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as a challenging but exciting group.
The draw, held in Washington D.C., placed England alongside Ghana, Croatia, and Panama as they begin their mission to win a second World Cup title.
Tuchel admitted the group will not be easy but expressed strong belief in his team’s ability and preparation.
“Difficult opener, difficult group. With Croatia and Ghana, two regulars at World Cups and two proud, strong nations,” Tuchel told BBC Sport.
He added that his experience in Champions League group stages has shaped his approach to tournaments:
“The approach was always to give it maximum respect and focus on winning the group. It always looks tough — just like our group now — but we’re confident and we’ll be fully prepared when we arrive.”
England will open their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17, a repeat of their 2018 semifinal clash. The match will take place in either Dallas or Toronto, setting the tone for what is expected to be a highly competitive Group L.
With Croatia’s pedigree, Ghana’s dynamism, and Panama’s steady improvement, Tuchel says England are ready for whatever the group throws at them.
