The hopes of the Black Starlets to secure a spot in the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations were shattered on Saturday with a loss to Burkina Faso.
Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Stallions at the University of Ghana Stadium, bowing out of the WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations at the semifinal stage.
Joseph Narbi managed to level the score with a goal in the first half after Burkina Faso had taken the lead. However, Ghana couldn’t muster more than that as Asharaf Tapsoba netted a brace for Burkina Faso.
Tapsoba capitalised on poor communication at the back to open the scoring after 12 minutes.
Despite the setback, Laryea Kingston’s team responded admirably, controlling possession and creating several scoring opportunities that unfortunately went unfinished.
Their breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Joseph Narbi curled a shot into the top right corner, equalizing the score for the Black Starlets, with credit due to a superb long ball from Nortey in the buildup.
At halftime, both teams were level with one goal each at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Just three minutes into the second half, Burkina Faso regained the lead.
Asharaf Tapsoba capitalized on a gap between Ghana’s centre-backs, making a decisive run before slotting a low shot past Armah to put Burkina Faso ahead 2-1.
Despite Ghana’s relentless efforts to find the equalizer, they struggled to break through Burkina Faso’s defence.
As the clock wound down to the end of the 90 minutes, Koingston’s team fell short in their attempts, ultimately losing 2-1.
