The Cranes of Uganda continued their brilliant start to the 2018 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over Congo at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Saturday.
Uganda, who picked an important point after drawing away with the Black Stars in Ghana in the first round, currently lead Group E with four points as they await Egypt’s clash with Ghana on Sunday.
Standard Liege striker Farouk Miya scored the only goal in the game for the Cranes in the 18 minutes of action.
Congo could have pulled parity and in score more goals but missed all scoring opportunities that came their way.
The Cranes continued to dominate the possession in the second half and nearly made it 2-0 but Congo’s keeper produced a fine save to deny Uganda’s Geofrey Massa from scoring from a free kick.
The other Group E match will see Egypt host Ghana at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday.
The Pharaohs, currently on three points after beating Congo in the first round, will be looking to overcome Ghana to regain their spot as group leaders.
