Match officials were violently attacked during a ABC Motsepe League clash between Acornbush United FC and TS Galaxy FC last weekend.
Kicking and punching were the order of the day in Mpumalanga as a YouTube video, uploaded by Lowveld Media, showed the referee and his assistants running for their lives as they tried to escape disgruntled fans and club officials.
Police were eventually called onto the scene to defuse the situation, however, SAFA are expected to take swift action against the guilty parties.
Speaking to KickOff.com, SAFA Mpumalanga provisional Secretary Bevan Mahlangu said, “We will have to see the video first and I will forward it to our legal department.
“Obviously the team that’s assaulting the match officials will have to appear before a SAFA DC.”
Mahlangu said they will only comment on the matter after a full investigation of the incident has taken place.
“Once the ruling is given, only then will we be able to comment on what action SAFA takes against that particular team,” he concluded.
