Ghana’s Black Starlets were held to a 1-1 draw by Nigeria in their opening game at the 2021 WAFU Zone B U1-17 Cup of Nations on Saturday afternoon in Togo.
Nigeria lost their opening game against Ivory Coast and also picked a pick against Ghana who drew a bye in the first round of games due to the number of teams (three) in Group B.
The first 45 minutes of the game failed to produce a goal as both teams went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.
Back from the break, the Black Starlets upped their game and started dominating play but that wasn’t enough to fetch them a goal as Nigeria took the lead in the 82nd minute through Abdul Manaf from the spot.
Ghana never gave up after going down as they fought-hard to grab the level minutes later from the spot, courtesy of Benjamin Nyarko’s brilliant kick to end the game at one apiece.
Ghana will next play Ivory Coast and a win in that game will qualify them to the semifinals of the tournament.
