Ghana U20 captain Daniel Afriyie Banie has said that his team is aiming for the WAFU U20 Cup pf Nations title.
The Black Satellites start their campaign against West African giants Nigeria at the Stade de Gaulle in Porto-Novo at the sub-regional championship.
While Ghana drew a bye on matchday one of Group B’s schedule of fixtures due to the group consisting of only three teams, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire settled for a 1-1 draw.
Ghana will later take on Cote D’Ivoire on Saturday, December 12 in their last group match.
Speaking ahead of the game Afriyie says the morale in the camp was high, urging his colleagues to all aim for the ultimate trophy.
“We want to re-write the wrongs of our predecessors and return our country to the glory days of 2009 when we won every trophy en-route to lifting the World Cup in Egypt,” said the Accra Hearts of Oak star.
“It’s time for the team to give back what the country has given them in terms of preparations.
Daniel Barnie Afriyie added, “We are here in Benin to do one thing; that is, qualify for next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania and then to the World Cup in Indonesia.”
“I want to urge Ghanaians back home to keep supporting us and remember us in their prayers as we battle here.”
The two finalists will qualify for the Africa U-20 Championship to be held next year.
