Ghana in the just ended 2017 WAFU Cup disgraced arch rivals Nigeria by whipping them 4-1 on Sunday at the newly built Cape Coast stadium to be crown back-to-back competition winners.
The Stars hosting for the competition’s maiden edition in the country’s Central Region capital ‘Cape Coast’,hosting the tournament four years down the lane entered the competition as the team to beat haven’t beaten Senegal 3-1 at their own backyard in ‘Saint-Louis’ as they hosted the 2013 WAFU Cup edition.
Maxwell Konadu, coach for the Black Stars B team after his team’s tremendous performance said ” we promised the nation to all out to win against Nigeria and we have surely delivered,” he disclosed to the media.
Konadu doubling as assist to Kwasi Appiah for the ‘main’ Black Stars,on the future of the current crop of WAFU players noted “the senior coach was here to witness the quality-play of the players for himself but Winful Cobbinah and Samuel Sarfo currently are with the team and traveled along to US on the team’s international friendlies against Mexico and the US national team,” he added.
The Black Stars failing out to book a ticket to the ‘CHAN’ competition couldn’t have afford to flatter and deceive it’s nation the second time haven’t lost out to the ‘Super Green Eagles’ by 2-0 in the Group A last round of matches, having 19 wins and 19 draws out of their last 49 games played with the Super Eagles.
