Ghana’s U20 national team, the Black Satellites, have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against host nation Togo on Wednesday.

The result allowed Ghana to top Group A and book their place in the tournament’s last four.

The Black Satellites kicked off their campaign with an exciting 2-2 draw against Benin in a match filled with attacking football that kept fans enthralled. In their second fixture, they secured a confident 2-0 victory over Niger, which not only earned them their first three points but also boosted their momentum heading into the final group stage.

In the decisive clash against Togo, Ghana knew a draw would be enough to advance, and they played with discipline. Forward Jerry Afriyie opened the scoring early for the Black Satellites, but Togo responded with an equalizer later in the game. Despite pressure from the hosts, Ghana held firm to earn the vital point that secured their position as group leaders.

With this result, the Black Satellites move on to the semi-finals, where they will face strong competition as they continue their quest for the title.

The WAFU Zone B U20 Championship is also a key qualifier for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, with only the two finalists earning a place in the continental tournament.
