Deportivo Alaves midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is calling for the inclusion of Barcelona forward Kevin Prince Boateng in the Black Stars’ final squad for this year’s Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt in attempt to end Ghana’s thirty-seven years trophy drought.
The no-nonsense defensive midfielder believes the inclusion of the former AC Milan star would boast the team’s quality in their quest to conquer the Africa this year.
Boateng recently joined Spanish giants Barcelona but has failed to command enough playing unlike his days at Las Palmas through to Eintracht Frankfurt and Sassuolo.
The German-born Ghanaian international has not featured for the Black Stars after their 2014 World Cup debacle in Brazil but Wakaso believes Ghana will need the offensive midfielder to win the AFCON trophy considering his vast experience.
“We need him. He’s the type of player we need. To be honest, for me, he has to come. We need such kind of players in the team. We need his experience, quality and determination,” Wakaso is quoted as saying by FootballMadeInGhana.com in an interview.
“We really need him. I can’t talk too much about it but we need him.
“For the past two years he’s been phenomenal and as we can see, he’s been a different player. He’s back to his former self,” he added.
Kevin Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari were sack from the Black Stars camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for acts of insubordination.
Muntari has since apologized for his acts following a directive from a Presidential Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate Ghana’s poor outing at the World Cup.
Kevin on the other hand has failed no render any apology to Ghanaians for the said ‘bad’ conduct with Ghana Coach Kwasi Appiah stating in an interview that Boateng would only be handed a call-up once he apologizes.
