Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has set a bold target for the 2025/26 season, declaring his ambition to guide the Yellow and Mauve to the Ghana Premier League title.
Tanko, who joined the club midway through last season after leaving Accra Lions, led Medeama to an eighth-place finish with 50 points. Despite the modest outcome, the former Ghana international insists his focus has always been on long-term success and building a championship-caliber team.
“When I came in, the goal was to bring stability and success,” Tanko told Graphic Sports. “We missed out on the top four, and that’s disappointing. But we’re not coming back next season to chase the top four — we’re coming for the title.”
The 47-year-old gaffer emphasized that while there won’t be wholesale changes to the squad, certain areas will be strengthened to improve the team’s competitiveness.
“There won’t be massive changes, but we need to reassess,” he said. “Players who are surplus to requirements will either be offloaded or loaned out so we can make room for the right additions.”
According to Tanko, recruiting a quality centre-back and a proven striker is at the top of his agenda.
“We have a good group of players, but we need to add more quality. A centre-back and a striker are definitely priorities,” he noted. “The rest will come from the talented young players already at the club.”
Tanko believes that with a solid pre-season and the right reinforcements, Medeama can emerge as serious contenders in the upcoming campaign.
“I’m here to build something strong and lasting,” he added. “Next season is not just about improvement — it’s about going for the ultimate prize.”
