Ghana coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor has revealed that there is no quota for home-based players in the Black Stars team.
The issue of local-based players getting huge quota in the senior national team has sparked controversy whenever players are invited for national assignments as football fans in the country want to see a good number of players in the local league getting the opportunity to feature for the Black Stars.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Akonnor said although there is no quota for players who play in the domestic league, those who work hard will surely be handed invitation to play for the Black Stars team.
”We don’t have a quota for local based players in the national team but if you’re home-based player and you work hard, you’ll be called,” Akonnor said.
The former Black Stars captain named three local players namely striker Yahaya Mohammed, and defenders Kwadwo Amoako and Hahib Mohammed in his maiden call up for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double-header against Sudan which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
