Ghana head coach Otto Addo has expressed his admiration for the unwavering support of Kumasi fans for the Black Stars over the years.
The senior national team is set to face Angola in their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 16:00 GMT.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Addo praised the Kumasi fans, highlighting their consistent backing of the Black Stars from his playing days to his current role as head coach.
“To be honest, I’m not concerned about support. Kumasi fans in my time never let us down. In our last game, when we were 2-1 behind against Central African Republic, they supported us all the way,” Addo remarked.
He added, “They’ve always been there for us, and we’ll need them tomorrow. Their support is like having a 12th player on the field. We love playing in Kumasi because of the energy they bring.”
Following their home game against Angola, the Black Stars will travel to Berkane, Morocco, to face Niger in their second Group F match on September 9.
Ghana is aiming for a strong start in the qualifiers, seeking to secure a place in Africa’s premier football tournament. With Sudan having already secured a 1-0 victory over Niger, the pressure is on the Black Stars to avoid dropping points at home.
