Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has underscored the critical need for high-quality football facilities to boost his team’s performance.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 29, Addo expressed concerns about the current condition of the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which will host Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Addo highlighted that a well-maintained pitch is essential for his players to perform at their best. “It’s concerning because, to play the way we want, we need a good pitch. Discussions are ongoing about how we can improve the situation. We want our players to excel, which means we must ensure the pitch is prepared as well as possible,” Addo stated.
Beyond immediate concerns, Addo also called for the long-term development of football infrastructure across the country. “In the long term, we need to enhance our facilities and increase opportunities for play. We need more stadia in different parts of the country to see an improvement in the quality of football,” he added.
Ghana is set to face Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, followed by a crucial match against Niger on September 9 in Morocco, as part of the qualifiers for the 2025 AFCON.
