Accra Hearts of Oak has tasted its first win of the 2016/17 league after overcoming reigning champions WA All Stars in action-packed fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium this evening. [2-1]
The Phobians have gone three matches without a win but it was a different story as they managed a slim win over the northerners in the week four encounter.
Hearts were at their usual passing and exciting play and it came as no surprise in the 34th minute when Alex Kuami’ 25yards strike ended in the back of the next. Anthony Nimo dazzled through the visitors’ area before releasing the former to lash the strike.
All Stars had a quiet first half but came strongly in the second half in search of parity. It was up until 82nd before their patience paid off. Hearts goal keeper Benjamin Mensah horribly mishandled a cross and All Stars’ Richard Arthur was positioned to tap home the equalizer.
Hearts responded in an extraordinary fashion with Captain Thomas restoring the lead four minutes later through a powerful header which skipped through the hands of All Stars’ goalie.
Elsewhere at the Carl Reindolf Park, Liberty professional beat 3-2 Medeama SC to record its second win of the season.
Bernard Arthur put the home side in the lead in the 5th minutes before Justice Blay equalized before the second.
Francis Addo scored twice in the second half before Nicholas Gyan reduced the deficit.
