Zinchenko has not bitten his tongue since Vladimir Putin began war on Ukraine. The left back had slammed the Russian president. “I wish you the most painful death,” he wrote on social media a few days ago.
The Ukrainian spoke to the ‘BBC’ about the conflict. He said that he would be in Ukraine defending his country if it were not for his family. “I’ll be honest, if it weren’t for my daughter and family, I’d be there. I’m very proud to be Ukrainian and I will be for the rest of my life. And when you obseve people, who they fight for their lives… I know the mentality of the people of my country, they’d rather day and they’re going to die, but they aren’t going to give up,” he commented.
Zinchenko also sent a message to the Russian players. “I’m surprised that none of them have said anything. The majority have lots of followers and can do something to stop this war. People can listen to us,” he said.
“I know that they are scared, but… what are they afraid of? They aren’t going to do anything with them. At least they could express their opinion, but they don’t do it. They simply ignore it and I don’t understand why,” he added.
He admitted that he is having a really bad time. “I cry because of anything. I’m not counting the days, but this now started more than a week ago. When I drive my car because I go to training or wherever, it doesn’t matter, I start crying,” an emotional Zinchenko concluded.
