Sportsworldghana.com in some few days gone by, broke the news of a mouth watering sponsorship package between Porcupine Tertiary, a student based support group of Asante Kotoko and Castrol oil.
In the sponsorship deal, Castrol Oil agreed to provide in monetary value, a GH¢100,000 to the group plus other products to facilitate their activities as a group. In return for this offer, Porcupine Tertiary were to provide some mileage and visibility for Castrol Oil’s products.
However, this news didn’t go down well with the management of the Club, as they believe, Porcupine Tertiary is using the brand Asante Kotoko to secure good deals of which the Club knows nothing about.
Subsequent to this concern, there has been series of meetings between the management of the club and the executives of Porcupine Tertiary on how best the deal can be repositioned to benefit both parties, i.e the Club and the support group.
This is what we know so far;
1. The management of Asante Kotoko in a meeting with executives of Porcupine Tertiary, questioned why the group didn’t submit the proposal to the club to engage the sponsor which is Castrol Oil directly? In response, the Executives of Porcupine Tertiary intimated that, they are an independent entity and that they are responsible for their own gains and pains. This response we understand was shot down by the management.
2. The management members queried the executives of Porcupine Tertiary on how much management of the club stands to gain from this sponsorship deal with it’s current financial structure in the deal.
In response, the executives decided to give the club GH¢ 500 per each home match. The management of the club again shot down the idea describing it as a peanut from a huge sponsorship deal.
This is by far what we know.
