Hearts of Oak striker Kofi Kordzi has attracted interest from a Qatari football club, reportedly identified as Al-Sailiya FC.
Kordzi scored 6 goals in 14 league games during the first half of the 2019/20 season that would be cancelled later due to the Covid-19.
Following the free transfer of Joseph Esso to Dreams FC, the sporting project of the Phobians would be dealt a further huge blow in the event that the top-goalscorer of the club of last season also leaves. Player sales are big source of revenue for football clubs but the case at Hearts of Oak is quiet different. They have not won any serious trophy since 2009 and almost every window they lose their one or more of their best players. How can you then compete?
It is true that strikers Abednego Tetteh and Ademola Kuti have been signed but these players are yet to play for the club and they guarantee nothing as it stands now but Kordzi has a record already that can be relied on as a source of expectation. 6 goals in 14 games. This is the main reason why the team of Togbe Afede XIV must keep their main man at least for next season.
To loose two key members of the first team in the same transfer window would not necessarily be surprising as the likes of Thomas Abbey, Vincent Atingah, Leonard Tawiah, Kwame Kizito and co left Hearts of Oak almost simultaneously following the 2017 season where the club reached and lost the MTN FA Cup finals to Asante Kotoko.
How do they keep Kordzi?
The answer is straight forward. Give him an improved contract and he stays. The 25-year old has been told details of what he can receive in terms of wages in the Middle East (you can ask Asamoah Gyan, Samuel Owusu and co) and to be honest it is a better deal than his current one. This is the main reason the player is pushing to be sold.
As at now nothing has been agreed and the best footballing option for Hearts of Oak is to try to keep their top goals-scorer of last season especially when one considers the fact that an integral player like Esso left the club just recently.
Hearts of Oak has not won any major trophy since the 2008/09 season and consistently losing your best players is not one of the ways to end this serious nosedive.
