The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers continued on Wednesday with many exciting fixtures and shocking results recorded.

Earlier on Wednesday, Malawi beat Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 to move to third in Group H.

Guinea Bissau disappointingly drew goalless against Ethiopia. Ethiopia is yet to score a single goal in the qualifiers after playing three games. They have just two points from a possible 9 and are above only lowly Djibouti.

Libya surprisingly tops Group D after beating Mauritius 2-1 in Tripoli. Al Badri and Elkrawa’s first-half strikes were enough to help Libya carry the day.

James Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan won 2-0 in Nouakchott against Mauritania to lead Group B. Salfeldin Bakhit’s 15th-minute strike put Sudan ahead in the game. An own goal from CFR Cluj’s defender Aly Abeid in the 29th minute made it 2-0 which ensured an important win for Sudan. They have won seven points after playing three games. Sudan has two points lead over Senegal and three over DR Congo.

Guinea defeated Algeria 2-1 in Algiers with goals from Morlaye Sylla and Aguibou Camara in the second half. Algeria has 6 points as well as Guinea but are separated by superior goals records.

Douko Dodo’s 37th-minute goal proved to be the winner for Benin against Rwanda. Benin has moved to second in Group C having won 4 points from three games.

Mohamed Trezeguet’s early brace secured a 2-1 win for Egypt over Burkina Faso. Lassina Traore scored the consolation goal for Burkina Faso. The Pharaohs have opened a four-point lead over second-place Guinea Bissau after three games played.

Ghana came from behind in Bamako to secure an impressive 2-1 win over Mali. Kamory Doumbia scored on the stroke of halftime to ensure a lead for the home side. Ernest Nuamah in the second half connected Salid Samed’s wonderful cross and headed powerfully the ball to equalise for Ghana. With just a minute to end the game, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku assisted Jordan Ayew to score the all-important goal for Ghana. Ghana sits second in Group I having won 6 points.

Fiston Mayele scored in the 85th minute to cancel Pape Matar Sarr’s first-half strike. Senegal drew 1-1 with DR Congo to make Group B extremely open.
