FC Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has responded to Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or jibe.
The Portuguese had a dig at the Spaniard a few weeks back after the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner suggested that, while the 31-year-old may have won the prestigious trophy last year, Lionel Messi is still the better player.
The Los Blancos talisman had hit back by saying Xavi had no place to comment as he had never won the prestigious accolade.
Speaking at an Aspire event in Amsterdam, the former Camp Nou star was asked if he saw what Ronaldo had said about him.
“I stand by what I said. The problem for Cristiano is that there is another who pretty much is the best player in history is,” Xavi told Spanish TV station La Sexta.
“I saw that he didn’t take it well, but I keep thinking the same. What he said to me about the Ballons d’Or is true (that Xavi hasn’t won one). I didn’t lack respect, but my opinion doesn’t change.
“He lacked it for me? What do you think?”
The 36-year-old currently plies his trade for Al-Sadd in Qatar, and has made one appearance for the club so far this season.
