Christopher Katongo, the captain of the Zambia national team that won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has praised former Ghana Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan, referring to him as a football legend and icon.
Recalling their encounter in the 2012 AFCON semifinals, where Gyan missed a penalty and Zambia emerged victorious with a lone goal, Katongo acknowledged Gyan’s impressive contributions to the Ghana national team.
As Gyan approaches retirement from active football, Katongo, who is now part of the Zambia Under-23 technical bench, expressed his well wishes for Gyan’s future endeavors.
“I celebrate you brother. I know that you know the football journey continues off the pitch,” Katongo said, “Wishing you the best in your next chapter of your life away from active football Asamoah Gyan.”
