Former GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi has revealed that the 2014 World Cup campaign for Ghana was marred with problems.
Ghana crashed out of the group stages in that tournament, a poor showing considering the team finished in the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup tournament.
Nyantakyi revealed that money was a huge issue in 2014.
“2006 World Cup was very successful. 2010 was also very successful. The unsuccessful one was the 2014 World Cup,” he told Kings TVGH Sports, a YouTube channel.
“There were a lot of problems in that World Cup. The money that was supposed to be given to the players were released from Bank of Ghana to the Ministry of Youth and Sports account. When it was time to pay the players from that account, it became a big argument. Based on our previous experiences, the appearance fees were supposed to be paid to the players in Ghana before they go. That is either by cheque or by bank transfer. There was no need to carry the money to Brazil,” he concluded.
Ghana have been drawn in Group H against Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.
