Ex-Black Stars forward Asamoah Gyan has described Andre Ayew as a player for the big occasion despite Ghana’s loss to Portugal in their first game at the World Cup.
The Black Stars succumbed to a 3-2 defeat in the opening game despite goals from Ayew and Osman Bukari who came from the bench.
However Portugal scored more with Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Rafael Leao all scoring the Europeans.
Despite drawing the Black Stars levelled, Ayew was taken off after his goal, amove many have deemed shouldn’t have happened as it changed the shape of Otto Addo’s team.
Gyan, who played with Ayew, praised the impact of the forward in the set-up.
“I think he is the man for the big occasions. 24 goals and he’s not even a centre-forward, I think that is impressive,” he said on Supersport.
The Al-Sadd forward has now scored three goals for Ghana in the World Cup after the goal against Portugal, and he will try to increase that total against South Korea and Uruguay in Ghana’s upcoming matches.
