Central African Republic has been hit with a significant setback leading up to their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Ghana next month, as their captain is sidelined due to injury.
The Central African team, known as the Wild Beasts, will have to manage without their star player and skipper, Geoffrey Kondogbia, who sustained an injury during a French Ligue 1 match last weekend.
Kondogbia suffered the injury while playing his second league match for Olympique Marseille in the new season against FC Metz. In the 56th minute of the game, he was forced to exit the field due to the injury, with Jordan Veretout taking his place.
Unfortunately, the 30-year-old midfielder’s injury is severe enough to keep him out of action for several weeks, making him unavailable for the upcoming match against the Black Stars.
Central Africa’s crucial match against Ghana is scheduled for Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
In order to secure a spot in their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations tournament next year, Raoul Savoy’s team will need a victory in this game. On the other hand, Ghana only requires a draw to advance.
Preparations for the match will continue as the Wild Beasts plan to head to Douala, Cameroon, in the coming week. From there, they will proceed to Ghana for the all-important fixture.
