Guinea-Bissau concluded their successful Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a 2-1 victory over Group A rivals Sierra Leone at Estadio 24 de Setembro on Monday evening.
The Djurtus had already secured their spot at the continental finals before the match, but they aimed to finish strong with a total of 13 points, just two short of group winners Nigeria.
Sierra Leone took an early lead courtesy of Amadou Bakayoko, but Guinea-Bissau leveled the score in the 35th minute with a goal from Nito, making it 1-1 at halftime.
Early in the second half, Franculino capitalized on Famana Quizera’s assist to put the hosts ahead 2-1, a lead they held onto until the final whistle.
The AFCON qualifiers will wrap up on Tuesday, September 12th, with the final match from Group C, where Cameroon will host Burundi at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua. The result of this match will determine which two teams, among Cameroon, Burundi, and Namibia, will complete the 24-team field for next year’s tournament.
