Vice President of the Ghana Football Association Mark Addo says his outfit will embrace whatever decision the Black Stars technical team takes on clubless Andre Ayew ahead of the upcoming cagey AFCON qualification clash against Central African Republic (CAR).
Mark Addo was giving his opinion on the debate surrounding the possible inclusion of Andre Ayew in the Black Stars squad for the aforementioned game.
The four time African Champions will on September 7 host CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium- Kumasi. The Black Stars will need at least a point from this game to ensure they secure qualification to the AFCON next year in Ivory Coast.
With coach Chris Hughton expected to announce the squad for the CAR match latest Monday, September 4, there has been speculation in the media about whether Andre Ayew, who is currently without a club, should be called up for this pivotal game.
Speaking on LUV FM, Mark Addo shared his thoughts, highlighting Andre Ayew’s important role as a leader and influential figure in the Black Stars. He said, “Andre Ayew is a phenomenal leader. He fights and leaves everything on the pitch. He’s a key part of the team, he is the captain and the leader, so we will support whatever decision the technical team will take on him.”
Addo further indicated that there have been instances in the past where unattached players were invited to the national team. Therefore, if Andre Ayew does not receive an invitation for the match against Central African Republic, it would not be a major issue, according to the GFA Vice President.
Andre Ayew has been without a club since leaving of Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2022/23 English Premier League season.
Ayew who has 114 caps with the Black Stars, has netted over 24 goals since his debut in 2007.
