Desmond Ofei, the head coach of Ghana’s U20 national team, has vowed to uphold the country’s reputation at the 2023 African Games, which are being hosted in Ghana.
This tournament marks Ofei’s inaugural assignment with the team following his appointment to succeed Samuel Boadu as the Black Satellites coach.
The Black Satellites will kick off their campaign against Congo at the Accra Sports Stadium in their Group A opener on Friday afternoon.
Reflecting on Ghana’s performance at the previous African Games in 2019, where they failed to advance from the group stage, Ofei expressed determination to aim for success.
“We go into every competition with the mindset to try to achieve the ultimate goal, which is to try to win the tournament. With our performance and if we advance further I am sure we will lift high the image of Ghana,” Ofei said at Thursday’s press conference.
To contend for the title, the team must secure a top-two finish in Group A, which also features Congo, The Gambia, and Benin.
With one gold medal and two bronze medals in the football competition throughout the African Games’ 65-year history, Ghana aims to add to its accolades in front of the home crowd.
