The Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese, Kumasi, will host the third edition of the Division One League Super Cup competition in 2023.
The Division One League Super Cup is a prestigious tournament specially created for the best performing clubs in the Division One League. It includes the winners of each zone, the second-placed teams in each zone, and two of the third-best placed teams at the end of every season.
The primary objective of the competition is to provide Division One clubs and newly promoted betPawa Premier League clubs with additional games outside their respective leagues. It also serves as a preparatory ground for these clubs ahead of a new season, offering them valuable match experience.
This year’s edition features eight participating teams: Nations FC, Bofoakwa Tano, Heart of Lions, Skyy FC, Koforidua Semper FI, Eleven Wonders, Young Apostles, and Nzema Kotoko.
The teams have been divided into two groups following a draw held at the GFA Secretariat on July 25, 2023. In Group A, Heart of Lions and Nations FC, both qualified for the betPawa Premier League, will face off against Sempe FI and Eleven Wonders. Meanwhile, Group B will witness former Champions Skyy FC competing against Premier League returnees Bofoakwa Tano, Young Apostles, and Nzema Kotoko.
The competition will take place at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Abrankese, from Friday, August 18, to Friday, September 01, 2023.
Skyy FC emerged victorious in the inaugural edition in 2021, defeating Tema Youth on penalties, while Liberty Professionals (now Hohoe United FC) claimed the title in 2022 after beating Nsoatreman FC.
