Ghana’s representatives in this year’s CAF Champions Club competitions, FC Samartex and Nsoatreman FC, will get $50,000 each as participation fees in the preliminary stages of the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Ghanaian champions FC Samartex is representing the country in the Champions League where they picked a vital 1-0 victory in Cameroon against Victoria United in the first leg, while Nsoatreman FC, who lifted the FA Cup is in the Confederation Cup where they defeated Elect Sport in the first leg in Accra last Sunday.

CAF announced the new monetary reward in a statement on Friday.

“In line with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s promise to improve club competitions and provide more financial assistance to clubs, the clubs participating in the preliminary stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50,000 each,” the continental football body stated on its website.

The preliminary rounds of matches began last Friday, and the prize money will increase significantly after each stage. The two Ghanaian clubs could get as much as $400,000 and $700,000 if they make it to the group stages in each competition.

The winner of the CAF Champions League will get $4,000, while the winner of the Confederation Cup will get $2,000.

CAF has made substantial investments in African club football over the past two years, including:

  • TotalEnergies CAF Champions League: Winners now receive USD 4,000,000, up from USD 2,500,000 in 2022.
  • TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup: Winners now earn USD 2,000,000, compared to USD 1,200,000 in 2022.
  • African Football League: Last year’s total prize pool was USD 8,000,000.

Prize Money Structure:

TotalEnergies CAF Champions League

  • Winner: USD 4,000,000
  • Runner-up: USD 2,000,000
  • Semi-Finalists: USD 1,200,000
  • Quarterfinalists: USD 900,000
  • 3rd in Group: USD 700,000
  • 4th in Group: USD 700,000

TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup

  • Winner: USD 2,000,000
  • Runner-up: USD 1,000,000
  • Semi-Finalists: USD 750,000
  • Quarterfinalists: USD 550,000
  • 3rd in Group: USD 400,000
  • 4th in Group: USD 400,000

This initiative by CAF is expected to boost participation in continental competitions and enhance the overall standard of African club football.
