Asante Kotoko stretched their unbeaten streak to eight games and held onto top spot in the Ghana Premier League after playing out a 1-1 draw with Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Midfielder Justice Blay gave the Porcupine Warriors the lead with a composed finish in first-half stoppage time, capping off a solid opening half for the visitors. However, Heart of Lions responded almost immediately after the restart, with Fawzi Ali finding the equaliser just two minutes into the second half.
The game turned into an end-to-end affair from that point, with both sides creating chances in search of a winner. Despite their efforts, neither team could find the decisive goal, settling for a share of the spoils.
The draw proved enough for Kotoko to extend their lead at the top of the table to two points, aided by Bibiani Gold Stars’ defeat to Dreams FC. Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s men remain firmly in control of the title race and will look to strengthen their grip when they host Bechem United in their next fixture.
Heart of Lions, meanwhile, held onto third place and continue to keep pace with the league’s frontrunners. Their spirited comeback and disciplined second-half display showcased their credentials as top-four contenders. They will next travel to face Berekum Chelsea in another crucial clash in the race for continental football.
With just a handful of matches remaining, the battle for the title and top-four spots remains fiercely competitive, and both sides will see positives in the result as they push toward a strong finish.
