Former Black Galaxies captain Gladson Awako has cautioned that Ghana’s home-based national team will face a tougher challenge in their upcoming CHAN qualifiers against Nigeria compared to their previous encounter.
Ghana eliminated their West African rivals in the 2022 playoffs to secure qualification for the African Nations Championship, with Awako playing a pivotal role. However, he believes replicating that success will not come easily this time.
“They won’t find it easy because the last time, we managed to eliminate them in this same tournament, and this is Ghana versus Nigeria,” Awako told Asempa FM.
“These Nigerians often feel superior because of their size and where they come from, but we always surprise them in the end. I’m confident this group of players can achieve the same result by staying humble and listening to their technical team.”
The Black Galaxies will host Nigeria in the first leg of the CHAN playoff on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The return leg is scheduled to take place in Nigeria the following week.
