Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has said that his team will do their best to win the 2024 Homowo Cup on Sunday against Heart of Lions.
The Phobians are aiming to secure silverware in this preseason friendly ahead of the 2024/25 football season.
The two sides will compete for the ceremonial trophy at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the game, the Ivorian coach described the match as a preseason friendly but emphasized that his team will strive to win the title.
“It’s part of the pre-season matches. After that we can get another match. But for me it’s normal we get a match at that appropriate time. We don’t talk about the win now. We talk about the match,” he said.
However, Ouattara emphasized that his team will not take the match lightly and will strive to win the title. “We are going to play the match. We will try to put our best team to play well. It’s not the first and the last one,” he said.
The coach also stressed that every team wants to win, and Hearts of Oak is no exception. “No team can tell you they are going to play the final and don’t need to win. We need to bring the Cup back. It’s football,” he said.
