Jerry Afriyie of Thoughts FC has claimed the top-scorer title at the recently concluded 2024 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship in Togo, finishing as Ghana’s standout performer with five goals.
Afriyie’s impressive run began with a brace in the opening match against Benin, followed by goals against hosts Togo and Côte d’Ivoire in the semi-finals, and concluding with a crucial strike in the final against Nigeria.
Although the Black Satellites finished as runners-up, his contributions were vital in securing Ghana’s qualification for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, alongside champions Nigeria.
Afriyie’s excellence in this tournament builds on his successful stint at the 13th African Games earlier this year, where he scored three times, including the decisive goal against Uganda to win gold for Ghana.
