Nigeria will face Uganda on Tuesday at the Fez Stadium in their final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles have already secured first place in the group after winning their first two matches. They are three points clear at the top, while Uganda sit bottom with one point, behind Tanzania on goal difference.
Nigeria opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Tanzania before edging Tunisia 3-2 in an exciting second match. The Super Eagles raced into a three-goal lead through Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman, but Tunisia fought back late and almost completed a dramatic comeback.
That match once again showed Nigeria’s attacking strength and defensive weakness. They have now scored and conceded in seven of their last eight games. However, their recent form remains strong, with seven wins in their last 10 matches.
With qualification already secured and top spot confirmed, Nigeria will still want to win to boost confidence and strengthen their status as tournament favourites. The three-time AFCON champions are chasing their first title since 2013 and are looking to bounce back from losing the final of the previous edition.
Uganda, on the other hand, are competing in their first AFCON since 2019. They lost 3-1 to Tunisia in their opening match but picked up their first point with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania. That draw felt disappointing after Allan Okello missed a late penalty.
The Cranes have struggled at AFCON in recent years, winning just one of their last 10 matches in the competition. Another group-stage exit now looks possible unless they can produce a positive result against Nigeria.
However, Uganda may take confidence from their past meetings with Nigeria. They have won four of the eight previous encounters between the two sides and could still qualify for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams.
A win will be crucial for Uganda, while Nigeria will be aiming to finish the group stage with a perfect record.
