Young Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei has been called up to the Black Stars for the first time ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 22-year-old, who has been a standout performer in France’s Ligue 2 with nine solid appearances this season, is set to join the national team for the upcoming qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Although Adjei was previously named in a squad for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda earlier this year, injury forced him to withdraw. Now fully recovered, the Teshie-born defender is eager to make his competitive debut under head coach Otto Addo.
Ghana’s path to AFCON 2025 requires back-to-back wins: first against Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by Niger three days later. However, Ghana’s qualification also hinges on Sudan’s results, as Sudan must lose all their remaining games for Ghana to secure a spot in the tournament.
Adjei’s inclusion boosts Ghana’s defensive options, and the young defender will be determined to prove himself at the international level.
