2025 AFCON Q: “We are going to give everything to beat Sudan home and away” – Alidu Seidu

Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has expressed confidence that the Black Stars will learn from their recent 1-1 draw against Niger as they prepare for crucial matches against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars finds itself under pressure to secure victories in their upcoming fixtures, with only one point collected from their first two games.

Reflecting on the draw against Niger, Seidu emphasized the importance of the upcoming matches, stating, “Now there’s Sudan coming, and playing 1-1 against Niger will serve as a lesson for us. We are going to give everything to beat Sudan home and away.” This determination comes as Ghana aims to revive their qualification hopes after a disappointing start in Group F.

In the match against Niger, Seidu acknowledged the team’s shaky performance, admitting, “We didn’t start well against Niger. We lost a lot of balls.” Despite scoring his debut goal for the national team, the 24-year-old felt a sense of dissatisfaction. “When I scored, I wasn’t too happy because I knew we could do better. Playing in Africa means that scoring one is never enough. If it had been the second goal I had scored, I would have celebrated more; but it was 1-0, and I was already thinking about us getting the second,” he explained.

As the Black Stars prepare for the high-stakes matches against Sudan, Seidu acknowledges that emotions will run high. “Tempers will be high for the Sudan game, but there’s no pressure. I will try to give everything and enjoy football so that people are happy,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to the team’s success.

Ghana’s doubleheader against Sudan is crucial for their AFCON qualification aspirations, with the first match set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, followed by a return leg on October 15.
