Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has stressed the importance of approaching the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola with caution.
Addo warned against underestimating the Angolan side, highlighting the depth and quality of their squad, which features players competing in top European leagues such as La Liga, the English Championship, and the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
“The most important thing is that we don’t underrate our opponents. Angola has a very strong team with players in La Liga, the Championship in England, Portugal’s top division, and France,” Addo stated in an interview with Peace FM. “They are very strong, and we need to be wise not to underestimate them. We have our strengths, but we must focus on our game, particularly defensively, to stay compact and avoid conceding goals.”
Addo recently announced his 23-man squad, which has begun preparations with a training session at the Accra Sports Stadium. The team has since traveled to Kumasi to continue their training ahead of the crucial match.
The Black Stars are set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, before taking on Niger in Morocco on September 9. The top two teams from each group will secure a spot in the prestigious tournament.
