Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has taken a jab at Ghana’s playing conditions ahead of their AFCON qualifier this Friday, November 15, in Luanda.
Goncalves previously criticized the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch in Kumasi after Angola’s historic 1-0 win, labeling the surface as subpar during their initial Group F clash.
Now, ahead of the return leg, Goncalves is assuring the Black Stars that they’ll have the chance to play on a high-quality pitch at Luanda’s Estadio 11 de Novembro. “We will play good football, with wonderful players, a great atmosphere, a good stadium, and a great pitch. We will do our best to beat one of the best teams in Africa,” he said in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com.
Ghana, led by coach Otto Addo, will arrive in Angola today to prepare for the match, scheduled for 7 PM local time. The Black Stars began camp on Monday and have completed two training sessions, with their final one held yesterday.
As Ghana sits third in Group F with only two points—five points behind Sudan—they must win both remaining games against Angola and Niger to have any hope of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
They’ll also need Sudan to lose both of their final matches to secure a spot in the tournament. Ghana’s final qualifier will be a home game against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
