Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has called on the Black Stars to give their all in Monday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar, following their emphatic 5-0 win over Chad in Accra.
The four-time African champions produced a dominant performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night, climbing to the top of Group I with 12 points from five matches. The victory strengthened Ghana’s bid for World Cup qualification and reaffirmed their status as strong contenders in the group.
As Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Gyan has been actively supporting the team, even traveling with them to Morocco ahead of their pivotal clash against Madagascar. The 39-year-old, who holds the record for the most World Cup goals by an African player (six), addressed the squad at their hotel, stressing the need for total commitment on the pitch.
“Let’s give 100%. I want Ghanaians to see you heckling and fighting,” Gyan urged. “We have great players, the talent is there, but that extra bit of commitment will take us to the next level.”
The former Sunderland striker also reminded the players that while club football is important, the World Cup remains the ultimate stage, and they must approach the qualifiers with the right mindset.
“Sometimes, your club might tell you to be careful, but the World Cup is the ultimate,” he emphasized.
Ghana currently leads Group I with 12 points, holding a two-point advantage over second-placed Madagascar (10 points). Comoros sits third with nine points after a 3-0 defeat to Mali, who are fourth with eight points. Central African Republic remains fifth with four points.
With a win against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, the Black Stars can extend their lead at the top and strengthen their chances of securing a spot at the global tournament. Gyan’s rallying call serves as both motivation and reassurance for the team as they push for back-to-back World Cup qualifications.
