Former Ghana winger Laryea Kingston has described the Black Stars’ upcoming encounter with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the most exciting fixtures of the group stage.
Following the official draw held in Washington, Ghana were placed in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, setting up a challenging route in their fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
Speaking about the draw, Kingston welcomed the prospect of facing England, highlighting the strong connection between Ghanaian players and fans and the English football environment.
“It was exciting seeing Ghana paired in the same group with England. We all know England is like a second home for Ghanaians. We usually play our friendly matches there, so our game against England will be very exciting,” he said.
According to the tournament schedule, Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England on June 23 in Boston. The Black Stars will conclude their group-stage fixtures against 2018 finalists Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Africa receiving a record nine automatic qualification slots.
Ghana are making their fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. Their best showing remains the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they reached the quarterfinals and narrowly missed out on becoming the first African nation to reach the semifinals.
With anticipation already building, the highly anticipated clash against England is expected to be a major highlight of Ghana’s Group L campaign.
