2026 World Cup: “Ghana vs England will be a very good game” – Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan believes Ghana’s upcoming World Cup meeting with England national football team will be a highly competitive and entertaining fixture.

Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars will begin their group campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23, and concluding their group matches against Croatia on June 27.

Speaking in New York during the unveiling of Ghana’s World Cup jersey by PUMA, the former captain—who featured at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups—acknowledged England’s quality but expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances of progressing.

Gyan noted that while England are among the strongest sides in world football, the focus for Ghana should be on advancing beyond the group stage rather than being distracted by individual fixtures.

He also described the Ghana-England matchup as a special occasion, adding that it promises to be a very competitive encounter.

The ex-striker, who remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer, has previous experience against England, famously scoring a late equaliser in a 1-1 friendly draw in 2011 after Andy Carroll had given England the lead.

As part of their build-up to the tournament, the Black Stars are scheduled to play two international friendlies in March, facing Austria in Vienna on March 27 and Germany in Stuttgart on March 30.
