2026 World Cup: “Ghanaians don’t care about excuses — expectations will always be high” – Henry Asante

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is fully aware of the immense pressure and high expectations that await the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Asante Twum emphasized that Ghanaian fans, fueled by past successes, are anticipating another strong showing on football’s biggest stage.

“When Ghana goes to every tournament, people are expectant. Expectations, for me, will never go down because we have a partisan crowd. We have people who love football, and they don’t care about excuses. And it’s not as if we haven’t done it before, we’ve done it before,” he said.

He recalled Ghana’s historic World Cup performances, including 2006, when they became the only African team to reach the second round, and 2010, when they advanced to the quarter-finals. He also acknowledged the disappointments of Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022, emphasizing that despite setbacks, the expectations for 2026 remain high.

“Ghana will always go into competitions with huge expectations from the people, and this, for me, will now escalate that level of expectations. But the coaches are aware,” Asante Twum added.

The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L, where they will face England, Panama, and Croatia, setting the stage for another highly anticipated campaign for the three-time African champions.
