Mohamed Salah scored a quadruple as Egypt eased past Djibouti in Group A’s opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Liverpool star netted a 27-minute hat-trick before adding his fourth late in the game, leading the Pharaohs to a comfortable 6-0 victory at home. Mostafa Mohammed and Trezeguet capped off the spectacular performance with two goals in the final twenty minutes.
Salah quickly gave the seven-time African champions the lead in the 17th minute and added his second from the spot five minutes later.
Djibouti managed to hold off further goals in the first half, but Egypt dominated in the second half, with Salah completing his hat-trick three minutes after the break.
The 31-year-old secured his fourth with a simple touch twenty minutes from the end. Mostafa Mohamed contributed the fifth goal three minutes later, and Trezeguet sealed the victory in the final minute of the match.
The North Africans are aiming to return to the World Cup after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar.
