Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Fatau Dauda has acknowledged the difficulty of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but remains optimistic about the team’s chances of securing maximum points.
The national team will regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 of the qualifiers. Ghana will first travel to face Chad on September 4 at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno, before hosting Mali on September 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Dauda, speaking to GHOne TV, reflected on the team’s form after back-to-back wins in March and expressed confidence in maintaining that momentum.
“In March, we played two games and we won, and Ghanaians showed up in their numbers to support us. But that is in the past — now we have new games ahead. If we want to win, we must score and work hard,” Dauda said.
While stressing the challenges ahead, he underlined the importance of preparation and determination.
“We will do our very best to win, but it will not be easy. Our opponents will analyse us, and we will also analyse them. At this level, it is tough, but we need to win these two games if we want to go to the World Cup. It won’t be easy, but I believe we can do it.”
Head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad later this week. Ghana currently sit top of Group I with 15 points after six matches, positioning themselves strongly in the race for a World Cup spot.
