“There is no excuse for our performance in this tournament”- Daniel Kofi Kyereh on Black Stars AFCON exit

Ghana’s attacker Daniel Kofi Kyereh, has begged Ghanaians to forgive the Black Stars following their poor AFCON 2021 campaign.

According to Kyereh who plays his club football for St. Paul in Germany, the team’s exit from the tournament is disappointing and has urged the general public to pardon the players.

Ghana suffered heartbreak in their pursuit of a fifth Africa Cup of Nations title after losing to Comoros in their final group game on Tuesday night.

The Black Stars were dealt with a last-gasp goal from Comoros which ended Ghana’s campaign as they finished bottom in Group C, with just one point.

Prior to the game, the Black Stars were hopeful of winning the game to seal a place in the next round of the competition but a loss sees them exit the competition in the group stage, the first time they are doing so since 2006.

And the German-based attacker who played the full 90 minutes of the match, has taken to social media to express disappointment.

He, however, stated that the time has come for the playing body of the Black Stars to show to the entire country that they will do better in future.

“There is no excuse for our performance in this tournament, we have disappointed our country and the people who believed in us. There is no time to talk much but time to show that we will do it better in the future,” the St. Pauli star wrote on his official Facebook page.

“I believe where one door closes, another one opens. So we have to keep moving and trust God‘s plan.

“This is the beginning of a new chapter,” he concluded.

The four-time African Champions’ next international assignment will be in March when they play in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
