Asante Kotoko are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing back former left-back Imoro Ibrahim as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the second half of the season.
The 26-year-old defender, who currently plays for Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars, has emerged as a transfer target for the Porcupine Warriors, with reports suggesting his contract situation has reignited interest from his former club.
Imoro remains one of the most successful full-backs to have represented Kotoko in recent years. He joined the Kumasi giants in December 2019 from Eleven Wonders and quickly established himself as a first-team regular with his energetic displays, defensive solidity and attacking contributions from the left flank.
During his three-year spell at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Ghana international made more than 50 Ghana Premier League appearances, becoming a key member of the side that ended Kotoko’s eight-year wait for the league title.
His finest campaign came during the 2021/22 season, when he featured in 28 league matches, registered an impressive eight assists, and played a crucial role in helping the Porcupine Warriors lift the Ghana Premier League trophy under coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Imoro’s outstanding performances earned him recognition as one of the league’s best attacking full-backs and attracted interest from clubs outside Ghana.
In August 2022, he secured a move to Sudanese powerhouse Al-Hilal Omdurman, where he featured in the Sudan Premier League and CAF Champions League, gaining valuable continental experience.
However, the outbreak of conflict in Sudan disrupted football activities, prompting the defender to seek a fresh challenge. He subsequently joined Singida Black Stars in Tanzania in 2024, where he has continued to showcase his qualities.
Kotoko are now believed to be considering a reunion with the experienced left-back as they look to reinforce their defensive options with a player who already understands the club’s culture, expectations and style of play.
While discussions are understood to be at an exploratory stage, Imoro’s experience, winning mentality and familiarity with the Ghana Premier League make him an attractive option for the Reds.
No official agreement has been reached, but a return to Kumasi would see one of Kotoko’s recent title-winning stars reunite with the club where he enjoyed some of the best football of his career.
